Blog Carousel – Everyday Stories
I am very honored to be part of a project taken on by some of the finest children’s photographers in the world called The Blog Carousel. Once a month a theme is chosen and each participating photographer creates a blog post based on her interpretation of the theme. We have covered several themes including Laughter and Framed. This month’s theme is Everyday Stories. I decided to focus on my daughter playing softball.
My eight year old daughter plays on team for a summer softball league. Learning how to play the game and having fun with her teammates puts a big smile on her face. As a photographer, people assume that I have tons of beautiful photos of my own children. The truth is, most of my family photos exist on my iPhone. Busy with life and work, I rarely have the time to photograph my kids. Being the team photographer has forced me to document this experience for my daughter. The everyday story of Katie playing softball the summer when she was 8.
The toys kids get for their birthdays or the holidays come and go. What really sticks with children and helps them learn and grow is their life experiences. I think it’s very important to document the everyday stories that make up a childhood. I hope that my daughter looks at these photos in the future to recall the happy memories of everyday stories during the summer of 2012.
Next up in the Blog Carousel is Calgary Family Photographer Danna Bowes. Please stop by her blog to check out her very cool interpretation of this topic.

these are wonderful! Your daughter looks like she is having an amazing time learning the game!! She will definitely treasure these photographs when she is grown!
What you said here: “What really sticks with children and helps them learn and grow is their life experiences. I think it’s very important to document the everyday stories that make up a childhood.” totally resonates with me. Good for you for making this a priority for her (and yourself!) She looks so happy and confident here, we always need a bit of that to look back on.
