I am very honored to be part of a project taken on by some of the finest children’s photographers in the world called The Blog Carousel. Once a month a theme is chosen and each participating photographer creates a blog post based on her interpretation of the theme. This month’s theme is Alternative Cameras.

When I shoot professionally, I use the Canon 5D Mark II and several different lenses. When I am shooting for myself, there are many times when I want to have a camera that fits in my purse with the sole purpose of capturing moments easily. For these instances, I use the Panasonic Lumix. I bought this point and shoot camera at the suggestion of David Courtenay, a fellow photographer specializing in amazing wild life photography. The Panasonic Lumix takes great photos and even has HD Video. The camera is now a couple of years old, but I am sure that the newer models are great too.

Last year I went on family vacation to the Bahamas. Since we are a fair skinned Irish family, Carribean vacations are not typical for us. Even though I am pretty sure this was a once in a lifetime trip, I didn’t want to be bothered with the cumbersome professional gear. I brought along my Lumix and don’t have any regrets.

I tell my clients all the time to just keep snapping. Photos do not need to be perfect to be loved and cherished. Sometimes it’s just about the memories.

Next stop on the blog carousel is the very talented Grand Rapids baby and child photographer Dena Robles. Please stop by to see her interpretation of the theme, you are going to love it!

I get a lot of emails from newer photographers asking for tips, advice, etc. Unfortunately I do not always have the time to answer all the emails. I am dedicating this portion of the blog to photographers, both hobbyists and professionals. I hope to answer readers questions and provide links that I think might be useful and also share some photography knowledge in general.

Please feel free to email me any questions you might have and I will try my best to answer:

tara@taramcglinchey.com

For now, I am sharing a color action I created for Abobe Photoshop. This action will work in versions 7.0 and higher. It is not compatible with elements, sorry. This action works best for images shot in RAW that have been minimally processed at 16 bits in Lightroom or ACR, i.e. corrected for color, brightness and exposure only.

Download here:

I would love to hear your feedback.
